Autumn Chef Series: An Evening with Mattia Ricci of Sexy Fish

For the opening weekend of the Autumn Chef Series, Guy Owen welcomes Mattia Ricci, one of Mayfair’s most dynamic modern chefs, for an exclusive dining evening at The Reef Knot Restaurant. Known for his precision, creativity and bold, ingredient‑led style, Mattia brings a contemporary Japanese‑influenced approach shaped by 15 years in some of London’s most prestigious kitchens, including the globally recognised Sexy Fish.

This one‑night collaboration introduces a touch of Mayfair glamour to St Mawes, pairing Mattia’s refined, high‑energy cooking with the coastal elegance of The Idle Rocks. Guests may also elevate their evening with our Chef’s Table Weekend, offering a 2-night stay, a  front‑row perspective on the cooking and a deeper connection to the menu.

A Taste Of The Evening

Mattia’s menu for The Idle Rocks is a celebration of precision and flavour, shaped by Japanese influence and the character of Cornish produce. Expect delicate, expressive dishes; bright, citrus‑led crudos, silky miso dressings, deeply savoury broths and refined seafood preparations – all leading to a finale that balances yuzu brightness with gentle sweetness. The evening unfolds as an intimate, chef‑led collaboration between Mattia Ricci and Guy Owen, with each course reflecting meticulous technique and a confident culinary point of view. A considered wine pairing accompanies the menu throughout, elevating the experience within The Reef Knot Restaurant and bringing a touch of Mayfair polish to coastal dining in St Mawes.
