Getting Here

St Mawes may feel blissfully tucked away on the Roseland Peninsula, but reaching The Idle Rocks is wonderfully straightforward. Whether you arrive by road, rail or air, your journey brings you to one of Cornwall’s most beautiful coastal villages with ease, and the moment you reach the harbour, it feels entirely worth it.

We recommend travelling by car if you’d like to explore the surrounding countryside, but all routes offer smooth, scenic access to the south Cornish coast.

By Road:

Driving to St Mawes is simple and scenic. Most Sat Navs suggest the King Harry Ferry; however, if you’re arriving late in the evening, selecting “avoid ferries” will guide you via the main road, a reliable and direct route at any time of day.

As you enter St Mawes via the A3078, follow signs to the castle along Upper Castle Road. This brings you into the village from the west, with The Idle Rocks located just beyond the harbour on the right-hand side.

Parking For Hotel Guests

On arrival, please pull up outside the hotel so we can assist with luggage and guide you to guest parking.

Lower Car Park (Spaces 11–20)

Directly opposite the hotel, including electric vehicle charging points (Tesla compatible). Tesla website

Upper Car Park (Spaces 1-10)

Located within the public car park. Follow signs for The Idle Rocks Additional Parking to reach our dedicated bays.

Complimentary parking permits for hotel guests are available from reception and must be clearly displayed. We have a somewhat zealous council car park attendant so if you forget to clearly display The Idle Rocks permit you are very likely to be fined and unfortunately this is something we can’t avoid.

Please note, Restaurant guests are welcome to use village parking, though we are unable to offer complimentary parking permits for restaurant guests.

By Rail:

High‑speed trains from London Paddington and the Midlands run frequently to Truro Station. From there, a private transfer or taxi brings you to St Mawes in around 45 minutes — a scenic journey that makes arrival wonderfully smooth.
