Day 1:
Arrive & check into your luxurious room at The Idle Rocks, situated in the idyllic village of St Mawes. Relax for the afternoon on the hotel terrace overlooking the Fal Estuary, or explore the shops & sights of St Mawes.
Dinner on the first night will be at our Sister, St Mawes Hotel, just across the harbour. A relaxed dining experience with authentic, quality dishes that showcase the best locally sourced Cornish ingredients.
Day 2:
After a hearty Cornish breakfast, local skipper James Brown welcomes you aboard the Madeline Rose, his traditional fishing boat, for a two-hour mackerel fishing trip. Gain insight into what it takes to capture the fruits of the ocean and learn traditional techniques from the former commercial fisherman who spent two decades at sea in this area of outstanding natural beauty. You may even catch a view of the seals on Black Rock, or the cormorants, shags, and peregrine falcons nesting in the nearby cliffs.
Dinner that evening will be served at The Idle Rocks restaurant, led by Head Chef, Matt Haggath who focuses on locally sourced produce with flavour, texture and presentation being integral to all dishes. Matt and his team have designed a menu around stories brought to fruition through carefully developed relationships with local suppliers, fishermen and farmers.
If you’ve had a successful days fishing, then our chefs will prepare your catch and you can enjoy it as part of your Idle Rocks dinner that evening.
