Discover The Great Gardens of Cornwall

September & October 2017

We have teamed up with our friends over at The Lost Gardens of Heligan and Trebah Garden to give our guests an opportunity to experience a bespoke tour, led by the head gardeners who will share with you their vision, knowledge and passion for these iconic gardens.

Head gardeners Cindy & Katie at The Lost Gardens will introduce you to the best of past practice. The tour will introduce Heligan’s historical 200 acre estate, now a paradise for the explorer, wildlife, plant lover and garden romantic.

Victorian Productive Gardens and Pleasure Grounds beckon, along winding paths laid out over two centuries ago. The Jungle takes you on a sub-tropical journey through bamboo tunnels and under majestic tree ferns, giant rhubarb and bananas, whilst the estate reveals a lost world of traditional and rare breed animals, wildlife and ancient woodlands.

Throughout September and October, Trebah Garden becomes awash of stunning autumnal colour, as the garden slows down with the cooling temperatures. There are many Japanese Maples which display a wonderful spectrum of yellows, reds and oranges as the season progresses.

On the rockery above the Main Lawn one of the most striking of the Red Hot Pokers – Kniphofia caulescens, not only has vivid yellow and coral red torch-like flower heads but has attractive blue-green foliage.

The massed planting of Hydrangeas around Mallard Pond will continue to look colourful long into the autumn.  The different shades of blue fade into a spectrum of violet, grey and even turquoise as the nights become cooler

Head Gardener Darren Dickey has been at Trebah for over 25 years! Darren studied at Duchy College Rosewarne, followed by a training period at Glendurgan before joining the Trebah team in 1991. Darren then had a sabbatical at Kew Garden before taking up the position of Head Gardener in 2002.
