Here at The Idle Rocks, we like to be able to offer experiences and engage people with the great outdoors and the Cornish way of life; where exploration leads to adventure and memories are made.
We are delighted to be able to offer a host of water inspired activities, from lazy indulgent fully crewed charters, kayaking adventures through beautiful creeks, learning to sail or paddle board or even the high octane thrills on our rib and F101 foiling trimaran.
All these activities are available for you to experience during your stay at The Idle Rocks, in beautiful St. Mawes on the stunning Roseland peninsula.
Charter Lazy Lady, the hotels luxurious motor yacht, for a fully catered personalised day out for you and up to 10 guests, with your very own skipper and butler. Lazy Lady is a classic Oyster motor yacht and perfect for an intimate celebration, an opportunity to explore the idyllic coastline, or perhaps somewhere to make a life-changing proposal.

St Mawes has some of Cornwall’s best boating activities. Guests can book sailing tuition with a local sailing expert on our St Mawes One Design sailing dinghy, Osprey. All levels of ability are catered for. Children’s lessons from aged 6, can also be arranged at the local sailing school.

Stand up Paddle Boarding (SUP) has in recent years seen a massive resurgence. If you would like to learn how, St Mawes is the ideal location. Sheltered waters make getting the hang of standing up and paddling a little easier. If you are an experienced paddler, you can hire a board and go out on your own.

Why not hire a kayak and explore the beautiful scenery and crystal clear waters of the rivers and creeks near St Mawes. Explore St. Anthony’s Head and the lighthouse or head north for picturesque St Just in Roseland, stop off on the way back for a picnic on a secluded beach or cove.

The gentle rolling countryside of the Roseland Peninsula is bordered by long, sandy beaches and calm blue water – the perfect setting for a wild swim. The guided Wild Swimming routes pass secluded sandy beaches and rocky outcrops, and offer both a sense of adventure and relaxed escapism.

Set sail with friendly, local skipper James Brown, on board his traditional fishing boat, the Madeline Rose, for a 2 or 3 hour mackerel fishing trip or a half or full day fishing charter. The waters in this area are excellent for mackerel, bass, pollock and cod. If you catch well, our Chef will gladly cook it for your supper.

Fal River Ferries and Water Taxis
From St Mawes you can pick up the Place Ferry, the St Mawes Ferry or an Enterprise boat which will take you across the waters to Place, Falmouth, Trelissick and Truro. With regular sailings throughout the day, it’s a great way to explore the area. Water Taxis are also available to take you out for lunch or to a secluded cove for the day.

If you’d like to get onto the water for an exhilarating whizz around, the 35 minute RIB trip could be the answer. You will see a wonderful view of St. Mawes as you proceed out of the harbour. After which they will open the throttle for a blast towards St. Anthony’s Head and then west towards Falmouth beaches or inland up the Carrick Roads.
